Paradise Valley Martial Arts School Uses Animals to Teach Kung Fu Self Defense

Learn About the Five Animals of Shaolin Kung Fu as seen in The Karate Kid and Kung Fu Panda

Shaolin Animal Kung Fu

You may have seen them in Kung Fu Panda or in the new Karate Kid. What is Shaolin Kung Fu and the Five Animal System?

One of the great benefits I experienced while training in China was the culture, history and philosophy of Chinese expressed through the martial arts (WuShu) such as Taiji (Tai Chi), the Shaolin 5 Animal System and others.

I’ve also been blessed to study with a world-class Wushu Master who was the stunt double for Jet Li. The lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn are integrated into the USA Martial Arts curriculum to provide our students with an unparalleled education and unforgettable experiences.

Here are some interesting facts on Five Animal Kung Fu.

Dragon, Tiger, Leopard (Panther), Crane & Snake. There are also other variations such as 7 animal kung fu that include the monkey, mantis and eagle.

WuXing, Shaolin Boxing, Shaolin Wushu or Chinese Kung Fu are all names you may have heard to describe this expression of Martial Art.

DRAGON
The movements of the Dragon emphasize cultivation of your fighting spirit and develop your internal energy.

TIGER
The movements of the Tiger emphasize strengthening of your bones to help to develop your natural strength and power.

LEOPARD
The movements of the Leopard concentrate on the development of strength, speed and agility.

CRANE
The graceful movements of the Crane specialize in developing your balance and flexibility, and harmonize your hands and your feet. Tranquility and awareness are some of the virtues of the crane.

SNAKE
The movements of the Snake will develop your speed and accuracy. The Snake’s energy flows through its body, which remains supple. The snake appears to be soft yet strong, flexible yet firm -until the moment the viper strikes.

? DID YOU KNOW ?
Tai Chi is considered Crane and Snake. Each style has a different approach to movement and defense, and is ruled by it’s own psychology, personality and expression.

In my experience I have found that the Chinese Martial Arts are very good at helping develop balance, tendon strength and flexibility. That’s why these elements are incorporated into our classes. If you have any other questions or would like to try martial arts as our guest, feel free to stop by in the evenings or contact us at any time. We would love the honor of teaching you martial arts.
